The main objective of the LIGHTFORGE project is the development of a Fe-Mn-Al-C low-density steel tailored to the industrial conditions of forging to enable new lightweight applications in automotive.
The specific objectives are :
Objective 1: Development of a tailored alloy composition concept maximizing the industrial processability of forged components.
Objective 2: To develop and validate a model for the component forging of Fe-Mn-Al-C low-density steels.
Objective 3: Design of an industrially oriented processing route which leads to the property requirements of automotive parts.
Objective 4: Evaluation and extrapolation of the economic viability towards the future industrial scale implementation, and evaluation of environmental sustainability of the developed material and fabrication route through the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
